True Charity
1 Corinthians
13:1-13
“Though I speak with the
tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as
sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2And though
I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all
knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and
have not charity, I am nothing. 3And though
I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be
burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.4Charity
suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not
itself, is not puffed up, 5Doth not
behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh
no evil; 6Rejoiceth
not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7Beareth
all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.8Charity
never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether
there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge,
it shall vanish away. 9For we
know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10But when
that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. 11When
I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a
child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12For
now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part;
but then shall I know even as also I am known. 13And now
abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is
charity.”
**Charity
means ‘love’. True love comes from God. He is Love. Anybody can devote their
time doing things for the Church for charity organizations, but If you don’t have
love, it means nothing. True devoted love for God is obeying the word of God.
Not loving the world, and the things in this world, because it is far from God.
And with that devotion to walk in His righteous path, True love comes in to
action; and it will show. **
1 Peter 4:7-8
“But the end of all
things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. 8And
above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover
the multitude of sins.”
**We must have God as
a first priority. Being sober spiritually, and watching in prayer-being aware
of things around us so we could succeed in our walk with Jesus. Having a
fervent charity- means such a burning fire of love towards Him. In so much that
it motivates us to live a godly life for Him, in obedience to His word, and
that for what He has done for us, we show Him honor and praise in worship for
Him. **
1 John 2:15-17
“Love not the world,
neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the
love of the Father is not in him. 16For all that is
in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of
life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17And the world
passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth
for ever.”
** We must not love
the world, neither the things that are in the world. For all that is in the world
pertains to the lust of the flesh-sin. God is love; pure love, and not of this
world. For the love of this world is completely opposite of the love that God
provides. Everything in this world is limited and fabricated. But God is holy
and eternal, keeping to His promises He has for His children. **
